Summary The best way to learn about color is with a hands-on approach, using paint and brushes. There is something special about a tactile experience and watching paint colors as they blend together. This kind of experience can be simulated but not well reproduced on the computer. There are many other activities that can be done in or outside the classroom, and many lesson plans with creative ideas for a more immersive constructivist learning experience already exist. Some of these ideas can be found under "Teacher Resources" on the Exploration page. Depending on the interests of the teacher and student(s), additional activities utilizing this content could explore many areas of human knowledge including mathematics, physics, art history, psychology, physiology, writing, history, etc. This online learning module would best be utilized in a "blended" learning environment, where it was supplemented by instructor-led activities. Computer-based instruction and web-based courses are best utilized as part of a wholistic approach which includes the planning of an instructional designer and the guidance of a mentor/teacher. The computer is a powerful creative tool which can augment existing teaching strategies, but it shouldn't take the place of talented, creative individuals who are closest to the learners themselves. |
